badminton battles

I was the official photographer for the Aviva Open Singapore 06 held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in June 06. World-class players were in town for a week and I was treated to a superb display of technical mastery, quick thinking and athletic power.

elite crowd

I was asked to shoot for the osim Singapore International Triathlon 06 in support of the media centre.
I remember I had signed up for the event before I was confirmed as the photographer. I didn’t want to miss either my event or the shoot, so I had to wake up at 5 a.m. that day, make it in time for the elite start at 8 a.m. and then go for my age-group event at 10 a.m. It was worth it.

The Croc

I was privileged to meet Brad Bevan for a photoshoot last year. The man is a legend in triathlon circles but what struck me was his humble, easy going nature. Brad Bevan earned his nickname because he used to train in croc-infested waters near his home in Mirriwini, Australia.
In a heart-breaking incident, he was hit by a car the day before the 2000 Sydney World Cup, which was an Australian Olympic team qualifier. He would have made the team without question.

what a smile

remember to play

To play is one of the earliest joys of our humanity.
Play is a period of unencumbered joy, discovering a body designed for movement. Even though we are now older, with adult responsibilities, when we step onto that running trail or playing field in the evening sunset, we remember again that joy, that first rush of blood, the increasing heartbeat and the taste of sweat on our lips.
Remember to play.

Lilin - celebrity triathlete

Singapore celebrity actress Lilin took up a mini-triathlon challenge in the Singapore International Triathlon last year in July 2006. What was remarkable was that she had given birth to her second child only earlier in the year. Her husband, Allan Wu, an actor, was also on hand with their children to cheer his wife on.

merlion myth

The Merlion gets a mixed reaction from Singaporeans. We know it’s supposed to be a national symbol for Singapore, a cliche like the Eiffel Tower is to Paris, but you hardly hear of a Singaporean taking his tourist friend to visit the Merlion.
The statue used to sit at the mouth of the Singapore River, across from Elizabeth Walk, 120m from its present location. It cost 7.5 million Singapore dollars to move it, or 62,500 dollars per metre.
Perhaps the continual spewing of water is just to allow us Singaporeans to channel our spitting habits.
